Bonjour French Restaurant Sukhumvit on BumRes.com

Today I went to have a French lunch with my mother at the Bonjour.  I found this French restaurant on the internet.  Supposedly the place serves authentic French cuisine and appeared so appetizing.  This is a second real French restaurant that I had ever been to, so I may not be the best reviewer on the French taste.  Please don’t mind me if I conflict with your opinion. This fine French restaurant was located behind the Condominium named the Fullerton (I am unsure) between the Sukhumvit 59 and 61.  The restaurant was a house converted into a restaurant.  There were almost ten spots for parking.  On my visit, there was only one other party.  I assumed they were a French couple.  Right as we were leaving, three French guys and some people from the Food Stylist magazine came.  With only about ten tables, a small restaurant was simply decorated with the classic vintage style.  From the interior, areas around the house were exposed through the clear windows.  In the garden, they were raising four huge rabbits, a lovely sight as we were waiting for the food to arrive.  Also in the backyard, there were two swans in the pond.  They were pretty amazing; too bad I didn’t get good photos of them.  About the service, staffs of the Bonjour were so professional.  They were so knowledgeable of the menu, gave us great recommendations, and took care of us really well throughout the meal.  I definitely give full points for the service of the Bonjour French Restaurant at Sukhumvit 61, Bangkok.

I believe the menu changes monthly and on my visit, they had the economy course set.  My mother and I ordered one appetizer and two main course dishes.  The appetizer was the Sous Vide Terrine Foie Gras, Figs and Benedictine Reduction, dried Black Fig (385++ Baht).  I remember having something like this at Déjà vu, wasn’t a memorable one.  Bonjour did it much better, totally erased the memory of the dish I had at Déjà vu.

For the main course, mine was the Pan Fried Brittany Monk Fish with Orange, Madagascar Vanilla Scent Baby Carrot Orange Syrup and Saffron Sauce (1350++ Baht).  I got to know about Monk Fish from reading the Iron Chef comic books.  I saw the Monk Fish in the menu today, so I really wanted to try it.  Presentation was beautiful and so mouth-watering.  I was kind of disappointed with the serving portion especially the size of the Monk Fish.  I thought that this fish would be amazingly delicious because of the price but to be honest, I like the Hima fish (Chilean Sea Bass) more.  Monk Fish had a more spongy texture which gave a feeling of chewing the fish more.  The taste of Hima fish is my preference.  Carrot sauce was made from imported carrots from France; it was delicious and matched well with the fish.  My mom’s selection, I couldn’t remember.  I didn’t get the name because the server said the name so fast.  Appetizer was a cold soup with fish and the main course was beef with mushroom.  Both courses were tasty.  My mother and I both like all the food.

Total damage came to about 2,500 Baht.  My mother’s course set was 499 Baht and my a la carte selections cost the rest of the bill.  We didn’t order any beverage because it was too expensive and the restaurant had filtered water to refill us constantly.  Overall experience was truly impressive, even though I am not the best judge for French food because it is too mild for my palate.  The Bonjour French Restaurant was rewarded 10 out of 10 from the Thailand Tatler 2010.  In my opinion, this place is better than Déjà vu.  If I have more opportunity, I will try more French cuisine so I can compare them.  If you want more information about the restaurant, please go directly to their official website. http://www.bonjourbangkok.com/index.php
