Somboon Pochana - Thai Chinese Seafood on BumRes.com
Today I am reviewing a restaurant who claims to be the origin of the Poo Pad Pong Karee (Crabmeat with yellow curry stir-fried) - SOMBOON POCHANA. This well known establishment already has five successful locations in Bangkok; Bantadtong, Surawong, Ratchadapisek, Udomsuk, and Samyan. A while back, I had gone to this restaurant many times but not recently. I had never gone to the first location at Surawong (which is now in the JamJuree Square), I always went to the one on Ratchadapisek road (which I am reviewing now). This one is quite big with the two stories of seating area. I believe Somboon Pochana had just renovated their street sign. Now it is a huge Crab sign attracting everyone, who is driving on one of busiest street in Bangkok - the Ratchadapisek. Strangely this establishment is open 16.00-23.00, serving only dinner. Samyan location is the only one opens 11.00-21.00. Possibly it is their business strategy to limit serving hours - to overrate the demand. Every time I drive by Somboon Ratchada, it is extremely crowded. All the food I had on this visit was as good as I remembered. I didn't get to collect descriptive details of the menu for you but I will update for you later.
Somboon Pochana's most popular menu is the. Traditionally, this menu is done with a roughly chopped whole crab. Being one of the modern people, I don't like to get my hands dirty and work hard to enjoy the dish - so I ordered this one with only the crab meat. Aroma of the curry powder was very pronounced, a distinctive flavor made that made this menu so astonishing. If you go to Somboon Pochana, you must order this menu - Poo Pad Pong Karee. There are also other seafood selections available, from clams to lobsters. Prices are in the range of 100 - 800 baht. Some seafood selections are sold by weight. Preparation price is included in there already. Check the most up to date price and carefully order your favorite seafood dishes.
