Honmono Sushi - Japanese Restaurant on BumRes.com
The Honmono Sushi is a renowned restaurant that many of you may be familiar with already because the Honmono now has several branches all over the city of Bangkok. Their fourth and newest location is at Central Bangna, which is the one I am reviewing. The first three locations of Honmono are at Thonglor, Ekamai, and Central Chidlom. On this visit, the place had been opened for only a few days and we were so fortunate to catch the 50% discount of the grand opening (which was the main attraction force to drive us there).
The Honmono Sushi specializes in Sashimi. Its name actually means genuine sushi, so I have to keep up with their name. I heard that their Thonglor location has a lot of strange fish but the Bangna location didn’t have any fish of that kind. I assume that their strange new fish selection is expensive. I felt lucky that the Bangna location didn’t have the offer because I would have tried some new fish and bled my pocket to death, lol… To be honest, I really wonder what kind of strange fish they have to offer. At Honmono, I didn’t hear about how great their common Japanese specialties are. According to my observation; premium restaurants with godsend sashimi selection usually serve their typical dishes with high quality as well. I have the details of Honmono’s menu already; please see in the tab menu.
A couple of good old friends and I had planned this dinner for a while. We finally gathered five people to meet and grub at Honmono. We ordered quite a bit of food, so I won’t get into much details of each one. You can see the photos and the captions to get the idea. Personally, I was impressed with their Sashimi the most. In my judgment, all of them scored about 9-10 out of 10. Honmono nicely served their Sashimi in large cuts with the beautiful carvings (About the same size cut as the Mugendai). The most remarkable choice was the Otoro with gorgeous fatty marble. Second most favorite was the Unagi over rice. Its size was astonishing and tasted awesome. With the discount, this meal’s value exceeded the cost greatly. Overall experience with the food at Honmono was impressive.
In terms of customer service, inexperienced staffs needed some time to improve. Honmono was so packed with customers that day and the food was quite slow. I understand that early days of business is the toughest time because the team needed to adjust the operation routines. Hopefully by the time the discount ends, the restaurant will manage to become settled in. After the 50% discount, our bill at Honmono was 8,000 baht with the service charge and vat. For five people, this kind of dinner was no joke without the discount. To all Sashimi lovers, Honmono Sushi serves premium quality fish in large cuts – I dare you all to check out Honmono Sushi at your nearest location.
