Maru Kaiseki - Japanese Restaurant on BumRes.com

As some of you may know already, the Maru at Soi Thonglor 3 is the master of Japanese food.  A popular restaurant with comparable deliciousness and value would be the Tensui at the Sukhumvit Soi 16.  After I have done some research about this restaurant on the internet, the Maru is out of my league due to its price.  I got the chance to review the Maru because of the dinner set for 500 baht.  In my opinion, it was a great deal.  So, I asked my mom to join me (my mom ended up watching me eating since she just went to a Sunday brunch)

We arrived to Maru about 5pm, right when the restaurant just opened.  Service staffs of Maru were dressed in Kimono – so spectacular.  All of them were friendly and really well mannered.  The restaurant has two levels; first is the sushi bar and second is the regular tables.  We sat on the second floor, where the traditional Japanese decoration prevails.  With the screen walls, artistic mural on the ceiling, and the dark tone wood finish, the atmosphere expressed a sense of class with the cozy attitude.  We loved the atmosphere of the Maru Japanese restaurant.  And the service was great.  Without these essentials, the Maru wouldn’t be able to charge the high price.

Food selection at Maru is similar to any typical Japanese restaurants.  The only different would be the quality and the price.  Highlight is the vast selection of Premium grade Sashimi as well as the rare choices of fish.  Please see more details of Maru’s Japanese specialties in the tab menu.  For an average Joe like me, I chose the Chirashi set dinner and a small set of the Sashimi.  Maru’s sashimi is as fresh as it could be.  I was so impressed with the premium quality; so fresh, so sweet, and so delicious.  The cut size of the Sashimi may be smaller than average, but not significant.  Dishes other than sashimi were also delicious; Tuna Salad and cold Soba.

The bill totaled to 1,300 baht.  My simple yet sophisticated dinner at the Maru was memorable.  I will look forward to coming back for a feast with my friends.  I’d better start saving some cash otherwise I would have to wash dishes in the back kitchen for the premium sushi.  Maru Japanese Restaurant @ Thonglor 3 is a great spot for premium grade sushi.  I haven’t gotten to try their rare choices of seafood but I really want to.  If you get the opportunity to try them, please kindly share your experience with me.

P.S. – on the way out, all the service staffs were bowing and saying thank you aloud and in unison.  Japanese custom is highly appreciated.  The feeling reminded me of the time I was in Japan, leaving the mall; staffs were doing the same thing.  This could be the reason bringing me back to the Maru again.
