Brasserie Europa - European Restaurant on BumRes.com

The Brasserie Europa is the major official restaurant of the Siam Kempinski Hotel, an exclusive five star hotel of Bangkok.  Another fine official restaurant at this hotel is the Sra-Bua, which I have already reviewed last week.  Every morning, the Brasserie Europa serves breakfast buffet for 750++.  For lunch and dinner, this fine restaurant offers the fancy European a la carte to the high status folks.

Brasserie Europa’s menu selection is small.  Our server explained that the menu changes regularly and that the chef doesn’t like to have the same menu for too long.  Extensive menu requires more ingredients in the stock, which gives too much headache (I think for the chefs, lol…).   Food prices are a bit higher than many five star hotels.  So if I were to completely fill myself up, it would probably cost about 2,500-3,000 Baht.  In case you want to order some wine to pair with your main course or add something special for the occasion to ornate your meal, then you can expect to spend at least 10,000 Baht for two easily.

I was there with three other friends.  At first I didn’t think that the price would be this high, so my friends were complaining.  Oh well - we couldn’t just walk out.  We ordered five dishes to share.  Now, let’s go over each of them.

First one was the Tagliatelle Grilled Scallops, Green Asparagus and Macadamia Nuts for 550 Baht.  When I was trying to order the dish, I didn’t know how to properly say the pasta name.  The server shot right back at me with the accent, I was so stunned.  This place trained their servers well.  Tasted so good for such a name; the Tagliatelle impressed everyone on the table.

Second dish was the Pepper crusted Chicken Breast wrapped in Parma Ham Sauteed wild Rice panache and Garden Vegetable for 700 Baht.  This one was beautifully presented and the taste was not to be worried; immaculately delicious.

Third one was the Australian Grained Fed Beef Tenderloin 200g for 1,400 Baht.  Basically this was a thick cut of Aussie Top sirloin.  Honestly, I had never seen a steak this thick.  It was so unbelievably juicy and tender.  I was so intrigued by this steak; another thumbs up menu.

Fourth one was the Crispy pork and Canadian Lobster with Shallot Potato Puree, Barolo reduction and glazed Peas for 1,100 Baht.  This is the signature dish of the Brasserie Europa.  Handsomely served with a wonderful taste; perfectly deserved to be the signature dish.  Disappointment was on the size of the Pork.  The server brought the whole chunk of the pork fillet and sliced only pieces to serve on the plate.  All pork slices disappeared so quickly; we could have eaten all that the server brought to show.  It was so good. I wanted more of it.

The last treat, fifth one was the Truite “Meunniere” Parsley Potato and Lemon Butter for 1,300 Baht.  Basically this one is a Trout steak.  Appearance was plain simple and too bad that the taste followed the look too closely.  Being a finale, its ordinary wasn’t much of an impression.

After the main course, we had to look in the dessert menu to at least check on the prices.  The prices were more reasonable (around 250 Baht), so we had to try some of the Brasserie Europa’s sweet specialties.  We ordered two choices; Mousse au Chocolate Dried Calamate Olives and Watermelon Gel and Tiramisu Tasting Classic, Blueberry and Blood Orange.  First one was good looking and delicious but didn’t get me too excited.  Second one was different, Triple Tiramisu, scored 8 out of 10 points.

The total came to about 8,000 Baht.  Besides the price that made us all pale, we were very happy with the overall experience; the food, the service (one of the server received award as a second runner up in the Asian food server competition), and the atmosphere.  Everything that Brasserie Europa had to offer was perfect.  Great things come with high price, it is pretty usual.  If you know any unusual places where great things come with low cost, please let me know – I am constantly looking for this type of restaurant.  For a special occasion, Brasserie Europa is a perfect place to exclusively please you and your special someone.
