bel GUARDO - Italian Cuisine on BumRes.com

bel GUARDO – Italian Restaurant is resided within the luxurious gourmet zone at G floor of Siam Paragon.  I have strolled past this place many times but never went in.  Today the time had come; I noticed the 3 course set for 850++ baht, so I decided to check it out with my girlfriend.  Atmosphere of bel Guardo was clean and simple.  With the open kitchen, watching the working chefs was pleasurable.  Servers were nicely costumed in uniform, with friendly faces greeting all customers.  Being a great server is not easy.  In restaurant management, service staff training is essential; qualities of a good server are considered from several aspects; psychology to sociology to culinary – literally a science of service in food industry.

Bel Gaurdo has just enough Italian specialties to choose from in the menu.  After a closer look, choices of Pasta were expansive and attractive altogether.  Too bad that my girlfriend wanted to eat light for dinner, so she went for the Pasta.  And for a big eater like me, I couldn’t turn down the full course set.

My girlfriend’s choice was the first one to come to the table.  It was Rigatoni Arrabiata (350++), many of you may be familiar with this type of pasta already.  If you don’t, it is a square sheet that curls into a cylindrical shape – see the photos.  The Pasta was smothered in tomatoes sauce.  For a vegetarian dish, I could not believe how delectable it was.  My girlfriend gave the thumbs up.  I didn’t believe her at first.  Once tried, I almost shed tears; super delicious.  Good news for the vegetarians in town, this is a great menu for all of you.

Choco-tortino (350++ baht) was my girlfriend’s choice of dessert, priced too high but the plating was splendid and not to worry about the delightful flavors – supremely sweet!

In my 850++ baht set at bel GAURDO, first to come was the Caesar Salad as a starter, which was greatly enjoyable with its appearance, taste, and portion.  Followed shortly was the Roasted Sea Bass with Some kind of Green basil sauce (unknown of the Italian depict).  Its presentation was greenly eye catching with drooling aroma.   As I nibbled through this menu, I wanted it to last forever.  With the white wine that I had (free flow for 350++) complimenting the Sea Bass, I was speechless.  Finishing the last course was also impressive – Tiramisu, my favorite choice of dessert.  Everything was in harmony; the food, the wine, the company, the service, the setting.  I couldn’t be any happier at that moment.

The bill totaled to 2,223 baht for a table for two at the bel GAURDO.  Our Platinum card also gave us 10% discount.  My dinner at the Siam Paragon tonight was overtly impressive.  The free flow wine was a good move for me.  I had about six glasses – all of which, set the mood for a wonderful dinner.  I should have come to this place long time ago.  Please experience the Italian goodness of bel GAURDO for yourself now at G floor of the Siam Paragon.

Yuu Japanese Yakiniku Restaurant on BumRes.com

First time I heard about the Yuu Japanese Yakiniku was over the radio a few years ago.  The name was stuck in my head but I never had the chance to go.  I was always going to Tohkai at Esplanade, my most favorite Yakiniku – for its quality and price.  Today my girlfriend’s friends were planning a dinner at the Yuu at J Avenue.  I took the chance to jam with group.  I believe Yuu has many branches and the Thonglor location is the original one.  I was part of a party of nine; we had three grills for cooking comfortably.  The tea was free and constant refilling kept us refreshing – be careful not to get too filled with the drinks.  Service team was so active; changing the grills every 15 minutes and clearing out the table.  Servers of the Yuu were incredibly.

Yuu serves Yakiniku a la carte style only – no buffet.  We ordered so much food; I couldn’t remember all of them.  When I viewed the photos, I had no idea which was which.  Basically we ordered beef and pork; each serving ranged between 150 – 200 baht.  We didn’t order anything fancy.  Please see the photos of Yuu’s quality meat.  Yuu also features Godsend Rib eye matsusaka for 2,500++ and Kobe beef for 990++ baht.  Who wouldn’t want to try it? The price is no joke like this, looks like I have to wait for my stocks to rise a bit more.  For the same price, the beef of Yuu is good quality but not as good as Tohkai’s.  In case you want top notch beef, Yuu has more for you to choose.  Since I didn’t get to try premium cuts, my impression wasn’t on the beef – I was so fond of the Korean Salad of 3 types (Pak Yum Korea) for 90 baht.  Its deliciousness was unexplainable; super yummy.

In the end, this meal at Yuu Japanese Yakiniku cost 800 baht per person.  Too expensive for how much food I had; not as stuffed as I would be at a Yakiniku buffet.  I have no idea how many servings we had but each of them cost between 150 – 200 baht mostly.  My overall experience at the Yuu was definitely enjoyable.  I was most impressed with the customer service.  I am sure many of you may have gone to this place.  If you have had the premium cuts of Yuu, please kindly share your experience with me.

Gyu Maru Japanese Yakiniku on BumRes.com

One of fine restaurants in the court of Japanese villa, Gyu Maru (round beef?) is a yakiniku that I have heard its greatness for a while.  This joint is seen in many reviews on the internet.  My friend has recommended me that spot.  Finally the time has come – the Gyu Maru is located on the second floor of the court of Japanese villa in Soi Thonglor.  The place only opens for dinner.  I didn’t reserve a table but I still got a table among the crowded restaurant.  Gyu Maru must have something good! For a party of five, we had one grill (standard size).  Fortunately, I was with my parents.  They couldn’t keep up with me and my brother.  If I went with my friends, one grill would be an ordeal.

Gyu Maru has so many choices of food available.  Mainly the beef price starts at 170++ baht and pork starts at 130++ baht per serving; pretty high priced.  Since there target group is Japanese people and this price doesn’t seem to hurt anyone in this rich neighborhood anyways.  On my visit, three tables of Japanese people around our table were guzzling Bee-Ru Singha (beer) like it was free.  In the English menu, various cuts of beef were available, mostly named in Japanese.  I didn’t know what actual cuts they were, so I had to rely on the knowledgeable server.  My most expensive choice was the Super Karubi for 350++ baht, which wasn’t that great.  Cheaper cut like Ninniku Harami for 190++ was more delicious, I thought.  For other dishes I had, please see photos and captions.  Gyu Maru has some serious cuts for 1,000 baht as an option.  I didn’t get to try; over the budget for me.

I must say that quality of the beef at Gyu Maru was astonishing.  Price is a bit high for average Thai customers.  In this meal, it cost 3,410 baht for five people – about 700 baht per person.  My girlfriend and I weren’t that full but everyone else was stuffed, they said.  In a high class place like this, shouldn’t there be free Green Tea or something? Too bad.  Gyu Maru of Thonglor would be a perfect Yakiniku spot for me if I was richer.
