The review is on the By Kalpapruek @ CDC.  My friend liked the By Kalpapruek at the Central World and we felt like having Thai food, so we tried it out.  The one at the Central World doesn’t have the “By” in the name but they both have the same concept of food, atmosphere, and service.  This Kalpapruek is located in the CDC Phase 2 area among the many restaurants; both franchise and original.  I have been to a few restaurants in this complex.  Two of them that I liked more were the Crystal Café serving a handful of European dishes with the highlight on the Mexican dishes and the Aston Gastro Bar, owned by the Iron chef challenger, who is so progressive in Modern Culinary arts.

The menu at the By Kalpapruek @ CDC is consisted of Thai single serving dishes mostly.  Although, regular Thai dishes are also in the menu for people who enjoy Thai food family sharing style.  Average price in the menu is around 100 baht, which I think is reasonable for Thai restaurant in the Community mall.  Like many franchise restaurants, the service team had a few students working part-time.  They weren’t professional servers but they were nice.  We could holler for service as we needed, so customer service wasn’t much of a problem.

For the party of three at the By Kalpapruek at CDC, we ordered eight dishes.  Five of them were typical Thai single serving dishes that could be found anywhere.  The first one was the fried rice with Chinese olive and minced pork (125 baht).  It looked basic and tasted even more basic.  The second one was the Stir-fried flat rice noodles with chicken (125 baht), a bit bland by itself but served with chili sauce.  The third one was the Fragrant rice with chicken and mushroom sauce (125 baht).  Good presentation for an ordinary Thai dish.  The fourth dish was the Thai vermicelli with green chicken curry (125 baht).  We got frustrated that it was served cold.  We asked to have it heated up and it actually turned out to be a good dish.  The last of the single serving dish was the most impressive one – the Fragrant rice with Ox Tongue stew.  The meat had a great texture and the rich and tasteful sauce was wonderful over the steamed jasmine rice.  We all liked this last dish the most.

Other dishes that we ordered at the By Kalpapruek @ CDC were like appetizers but we had them with the meal.  The best one was the crispy fried shrimp cakes (145 baht).  This is a simple Thai menu that Thai people love to order when they go out.  I was mostly touched by its crispiness.  Pieces of shrimp blended in were perfectly delicious.  We were recommended to try the Beef Satay (110 baht).  I personally liked its flavorful juicy meat with the peanut sauce.  Get your taste buds refreshed with the cucumber salad on the side after each skewer of the beef.  The next skewer will get tastier.  We also had a spicy salad, the Pomelo salad with shrimps (125 baht) – a well done salad with variety of contexts.  Naturally sweet and tangy flavored pulps of Pomelo complimented the shrimp and the spicy dressing nicely.

Well, for three people to order this many dishes is absolutely not typical.  My friends and I just love to eat, so we had no problem finishing all the food in this review.  Portions of the single serving dishes weren’t so big.  Besides a rice dish for yourself, perhaps you could share a couple of appetizers or salad with a friend to complete the meal.  Most dishes were nicely prepared but only a couple of dishes were outstanding. In which I think it is acceptable.  Next time you are strolling in the CDC, craving for quick and easygoing Thai food, the By Kalpapruek isn’t a bad choice at all.  A friend of mine actually said that the Kalpapruek at the Central World was more delicious.  May be you'd want to check that one out first.
