We were invited to review the Manhattan Bar at the JW Marriot.  The restaurant was doing a campaign, Wine Gone Mad in Manhattan.  The details are as following, two choices for each red and white wine, new world and old world.  Each glass is on sale at 99++ baht, which I would say it is pretty cheap, if considered the Wine by Glass in restaurants.  Normally the price is around 200 baht.  Besides the wine, the Manhattan has the Tapas to go with it as well.  Four choices of Tapas in a plate for 100++ baht, quite a good deal, isn’t it?

Manhattan Bar is the newest restaurant of this hotel.  I believe it is supposed to be the pre-party place for New York Steakhouse or any other pub and restaurants later in the night.  The intention of this small wine bar is simply to attract people for a quick visit earlier in the evening to warm up or to hang out after work to avoid the stress of the rush hour traffic.  There are plenty of alcoholic drink selections; from wine to fancy cocktails.  For food, there is a menu with a few choices of appetizer style food and tapas.

For the four glasses of wine that we got to try, I didn’t expect it to be great or anything because often times special promotion wines are cheaper grade.  But, surprisingly these wines were much better than I expected.  For its quality, people would have no problem paying 200 baht for it.  Great wine deal!

For Tapas on this visit, we had 16 items on four plates.  From my understanding, Tapas is European but it also has the Mediterranean feel.  We have cold cuts, parma ham, pickled veggies, and imported oysters from France.  To be honest, I didn’t look for the gourmet impression here.  Everything was basic, good to pair up with your drink as snacks.  If you want to enjoy eating, this place won’t be the one.

One of the dishes outside the Tapas menu was the Caramel Pork Belly (Served with Pomelo Salad and Tamarind port wine – 220 baht).  This dish was the braised pork belly that gets seared and roasted afterward.  Sweet glazed over the crispy skin and inside was very savory and tender.  For 220++ baht it was a wonderful menu to enjoy with a glass of good red wine while chitchatting with friends and kill time.

The Manhattan Bar’s dark décor with the easygoing lounge seating style was very charming.  With the location of the hotel near the BTS station, this is a good place to gather a group of friends together prior to heading out for a night life.  You can go there for nightlife mood setting with a glass of wine or two, eat light before the clubbing.  The service wasn’t to be complained; good looking and service minded staffs will take good care of you.  Well, if you get a chance, check it out!
