Sushi Cyu and BBQ Carnival - Japanese Restaurant on BumRes.com

My review is about a Japanese lunch at the Sushi Cyu & Carnival Yakiniku, located at the building All Seasons Place on the Wireless road.  I was a part of a party of six.  Two of them had been there before and told me their lunch set is good value, especially for the Sashimi.  This place also has Yakiniku but we aimed for the easygoing lunch on Saturday, so we went straight to the private little room in the back of the restaurant.

As far as I know, there are two locations of the Sushi Cyu and Carnival Yakiniku.  The other one is at Thonglor.  I heard that both places have almost exactly the same menu.  The lunch set is similar to the dinner time, only smaller portion with the inclusion of green tea, soup or salad, and fruits at a bargain price.   There are so many Lunch sets to choose from at Sushi Cyu at All Seasons Place.  Please see more details of their offering in the tab menu.

At first I wanted to order the basic Chirashi Sushi (the assorted sashimi over sushi rice) but I noticed the Maguro Nutto Don, which was Tuna with fermented beans over sushi rice.  It was something that I never had before but it sounded really good.  When my friend asked me what I ordered, I said that I ordered the Tuna Nutto or something.  My friends who were Japanese food expert seemed so puzzled.  He asked me if I had this menu before and I said no.  He scared me by telling me how weird it was – this and that.  I thought to myself that it couldn’t be that bad, so I didn’t change the order.  Once I got it, the bowl looked really appetizing.  The first couple of bites were alright but later it became really bothering.  Its strong smell and the gooey feel on the tongue were disturbing to me.  However the Tuna was fresh and delicious without the fermented beans.  Man! It was a rough lunch for me.  Honestly I tried finding the goodness about it but it just didn’t work out.  To westerners and someone who has never had it, I highly warn you not to get the Nutto Don of any kinds.  No more for me.

I had to nibble on my friend’s food to feel better about Sushi Cyu.  On the table were Bara Chirashi, Chirashi Sushi, Grilled ox tongue, Hamburg, and Assorted Nigiri set.  In the Chirashi Sushi, there were Akami, Hotate, Salmon, Ikura, Hamachi.  The Bara Chirashi was a nice and simple one with some cube cuts of Marugo, Salmon, Egg, Ebi, cucumber.  It looked really delicious.  The fish had fair quality for the price but nothing to compare to premium Japanese restaurants.  I liked the Akami and Hamachi.  I believe it was the Chef’s Omakase Nigiri set my friend had; it was the highlight with Otoro, Tuna, Salmon, Saba, Shrimp, and more.  Everyone seemed to enjoy their lunch but none of them were overly excited about their food.  Well, not as much as I did, lol…  First time to the Japanese nutto, yuck!

Overall the Sushi Cyu and Carnival Japanese BBQ at the All Seasons Place served good lunch sets.  With the special set, this place must attract the office people crowd during the weekday.  We were there on the weekend and the whole building was rather quite.  There was only about two or three parties during our lunch.  Besides the nutto, everything was just fine; the service and the atmosphere.  In my opinion, Sushi Cyu and Carnival Japanese BBQ at the Eighth Building, Thonglor location is much more convenient if you don’t have any business in this building.  On the other hand, if you work in the building, Sushi Cyu @ All Seasons Place is definitely a great choice.
