Vanilla Garden - Japanese and Chinese Restaurant on BumRes.com

Today I am reviewing the Vanilla Garden, one of the Vanilla restaurants under the management of Vanilla Industry – owned by the daughter of the S&P restaurants.  With this brand, I am not sure what other restaurants they have besides the Vanilla Garden and the Vanilla Brasserie (at Paragon, specialize in noodles).   As far as I know, there are three locations of the Vanilla Garden; Siam Square, Thonglor, and Ekamai.  Ekamai branch is the one I am reviewing.  It is located near the Coffee Bean by Dao building.  Driving there may not be the most convenient choice since there are only 10+ spots available.  I have always gone there during lunch time and never had any problem.  I am not so sure about going there for dinner.  .

The Vanilla Garden is mainly divided into three sections; Chinese, Japanese, and Book store.  I have experienced this restaurant four times; twice of each culinary division - Chinese and Japanese.  You can sit in the Chinese setting and order Japanese dishes – vice versa.  Both choices serve smaller portion like a snack style.  Menu of both selections are minimal – nothing like a real Chinese or Japanese restaurants.  Price range of the Japanese is higher; from 200 to 400 baht.  On the other hand, Chinese dishes range mostly between 60 – 70 baht (Dim Sum) and some dishes are up to about 200 baht (Regular Chinese dishes).  My first three visits, I didn’t get to take photos, so I only have photos from my most recent visit.  Soon I will go back there again and I will update with more photos as well as sharing my experience.

Majority of the food I had at Vanilla Garden was delicious; I would give at least 8 out of 10 for all of them.  My most favorite menu is the Shrimp Shumai.  I felt like it was one of the best I have had in years.  Its price was only 80 baht – good deal for such a yummy dish.  Then, Japanese selections of Vanilla Garden were leaning toward the fusion style.  You won’t find any place like it – very original and creative, yet delectable.  You have to try it out for yourself.  One comment on the water glass – so small, it took one gulp to finish.  Hard work was on the server, having to service too often.  Perhaps the restaurant intentionally offers smaller glass for water so that customers would order their fancy fruit juices or cocktails.   The Vanilla Garden has all kinds of beverages for you choose – each cost at least 100 baht.  Lovely atmosphere of the Vanilla Garden is perfect for young couples or a group of closed friends to spend quality time.  Together with the service minded staffs, overall experience was quite pleasing.  For about 500 baht per head, what you get is more valuable – very affordable for targeted customers in this neighborhood.
