Bekku Tonkatsu - Japanese Thonglor on BumRes.com
The Bekku Japanese restaurant is known for its To-die-for Tonkatsu. I have heard about this spot for a while already but I never had the chance to try it until this time. If you were to ask people for where to go for best Tonkatsu, I would say that about 80% of Japanese food fans are going to tell you to go to Bekku. Bekku's shop is resided within a small townhouse in the early part of Soi Thonglor. Coming here by car may not be the best choice but parking is available at the Grand Tower Inn. Talking the BTS to Thonglor station is much more convenient; only a short walk into the Soi. With the small size dining room, Bekku can probably host up to about 30 people maximum. Be sure not to come during late afternoon since they will be closed. Don't expect much from the customer service here; it is no better than most average Thai food shops.
I was there during lunch so I only got to see the lunch menu. I forgot to check on the dinner menu for you all - so if I go to Bekku at Thonglor for dinner next time, I'll be sure to collect the info for you. At lunch time, the selection is limited. Please see more details of the lunch menu in the tab menu. Since Bekku was known for the Tonkatsu, I surely wanted to try their Tonkatsu. I ordered the special Pork loin Tonkatsu with plum stuffing for 240 Baht. I didn't have to wait long for the rice and the side dishes to come. All of these side veggies condiment, you can ask for more free of charge. The Tonkatsu came afterward; its size was astonishing - so big for the price, I thought to myself. It tasted so good; in fact extremely delicious. To be honest, Bekku's tonkatsu was better than the Tonkatsu I had in Japan, where I had to wait so long to get the table. The pork was perfectly cooked; so crispy on the outside, so juicy and tender inside. With their Tonkatsu fruit sauce, no need to say - I am starting to drool at the moment thinking about it. My mother's choice was the Rice with Curry at 4/5 spiciness. For 220 Baht, this menu was also amazingly delicious. The Pork Tonkatsu was as good as the one in my set. We both loved it.
The bill for lunch at Bekku Japanese Tonkatsu Shop came to only 480 Baht. For just less than 500 Baht, one of the cheapest and most impressive Japanese lunch I have had in quite some time. I am not surprised to find this place still full of customers at almost 2pm. Looked like some office workers enjoying their lunch late. This must be the hot spot for lunch around here. I'll come back here for dinner with my friends or family again. Hopefully I'll bring back some good menus at Bekku to tell all of you. Or you can check it out and come tell everyone about this Yummy Tonkatsu Spot.
