Madam Ann Vietnamese Cuisine on BumRes.com

Madam Aun is a Vietnamese restaurant that has been around for over 15 years.  A friend of mine went there and recommended the place as a good spot for a Vietnamese meal.  The location is not the easiest place to find but not too difficult.  I was coming from the RAMA VI Road and go into Soi Ranong 1, then go past the railroad into a smaller soi.  Keep going straight until you find the sign in Thai on the right hand side.  There was no English writing sign, so please see the photo I have for the sign.  Parking is simple; available in the apartment opposite to the restaurant.

Supposedly this place serves Vietnamese and Thai dishes, but mostly Vietnamese food.  The restaurant atmosphere is basic, down to earth with some random decorations similar to Northern Thai culture.   Menu was a photo album with caption naming each photo.  Selection was so vast that looking through all of them may take too long to order and confuse you a bit.  Since we are familiar with Vietnamese food, we just ordered the common dishes we knew.  Prices were around 80-150 Baht per dish, which were a bit higher than other Vietnamese restaurants we had gone to.  Consider the longtime experience, prices was higher than reasonable with the added cost of recipes and skills.

At Madam Aun, I was there with one other friend.  We both shared many dishes.  All of them were simple and delicious.  Ingredients were fresh.  Sauces were tasty.  Best one of all must be the usual pick for everyone, the Nam Nuang Platter.  This is a Vietnamese sausage with chopped veggies condiments to wrap with lettuce and clear noodle sheet.  Condiments usually include banana, mango, garlic, chili, cilantro, basil, peanuts, and other fresh vegetables.   Be sure to add everything because that is the best way to traditionally enjoy the taste of Vietnamese.  Even thought you may not like some of the side condiments.  At least try one bite with the full option.  Second favorite must be the Kanom Buang, a half folded huge crispy crape with the bean sprouts, shrimp, minced pork, and bunch other stuffs.  Kanom Pakmoh with the peppered sausage was the third best.  And many other dishes include Fresh spring rolls with shrimp, Moo Hor Bai ChaPlu (Grilled pork wrap in Greenleaf), Kaai Kata (Fried egg with toppings).  Vietnamese people must like the fresh vegetables; you will always find the basket full of fresh green vegetables and herbs.  All of them can be mixed and matched with all of the dishes.  The sweet sauce is also common and can go over everything on the table, if you’d like; added in the sauce is the shredded carrots and beets.  There were many other choices that I didn’t order.  Since they have a picture menu, you should be able to order from there easily.

This is a great place to find for the Vietnamese specialties.  Vietnamese food at Madam Ann was close enough to authentic, but I am sure that there is influence from the Udonthani, Nam Nuang recipe.   This province is known for the brand “VT Nam Nuang”, set up comes in a green box.   Many people in Bangkok love it.  It is the popular gift to bring to friends and families, if you traveled to that area.  Madam Ann will easily cure my cravings for the Nam Nuang, I don’t have to wait for the VT from a friend coming from Udonthani.  If you like a healthy meal with lots of vegetable and the Vietnamese cuisine, try this place- Madam Ann on Soi Ranong 1, Bangkok.
